Intra-operative Transoesophageal Echocardiography is of vital value during cardiac operations, especially in those which involve valves, great vessels or congenital abnormalities. By this technique the Cardiac Surgeon has exact information regarding the surgical result before the end of the operation.

The echocardiologist who performs the TEE examination must have accumulated experience in diagnostic TEE studies, in order to provide the surgeons correct information during the operation. Professional cooperation between all persons involved (surgeon, anaesthesiologist, cardiologist, nurses and technical staff) who participate in complicated operations is mandatory, for achieving the optimum result for the patient.

The photo is from my participation, as echocardiographer, in a complicated operation (replacement of Ascending Aortic Aneurysm), of a sixty year old man, which was successfully done today at a private Hospital in Limassol, Cyprus.
